Good marlin and dolphin fishing off Cape hatteras persists

"Big Easy" was completed in 1998 at Briggs boatyard in Wanchese, North Carolina. It was built large and strong to fish the waters off Cape Hatteras in safety and comfort. She has twin engines for "get you home safety". The boat is heated and airconditioned. I have completed 10 seasons and hope for many more.

ANGLER PARTICIPATION ENCOURAGED I want to involve the angler in all aspects of the trip. Too often on charter boats the angler justs reels in the hooked fish. You will get more out of your trip the more you are involved. We will teach you to rig baits, drop back, hook fish, drive the boat etc. Bring a favorite rod and reel. We want this to be a memorable trip.

Jun. 19, 2008 -
Interesting day. Calm. We caught a limit of dolphin. In 80 fathoms we came across azure blue water in big 100 to 150 foot circles. It slowly disappears. I believe this is upwelling of natural gas(Methane) from the earths surface. Probable evidence of hydrocarbon deposits off hatteras

We headed offshore with Roger and his group. The seas were coming from the South. 15-20 knots. The fleet had very few trolling bites. We had a pretty uneventful morning. No bites. The radar picked up gathering storm clouds. Winds picked up to 25 knots and the seas looked ominous. We ran through rain on the way in. Some lightning. Glad to be home.

We had a group of men from Delaware fishing with us today. Thanks, Scott Warren for arranging this. The group wanted to target only tuna. We had a beautiful day. We started at the 217 wreck and worked up the line catching some blackfins at the 240 and 260 lines. Albacore were plentiful particularly at the 280 line. No yellowfins. The group elected to go to the 400 line in hopes of finding yellowfins. We trolled deep to 250 fathoms and into the change at 30 fathoms. We had one powerful bite at the 360 line in 42 fathoms but the fish came off. Bryan tried everything in the book but there were just no yellowfins in the area. We have had a hard blow recently and where the fish go remains a mystery.

Fishing was slow on our boat. Our most interesting bites were 100 to 160 fathoms. We had some sails up but didn't connect. We hooked a blue marlin on the 120 line in 100 fathoms but he managed to throw the hook after 5-6 great jumps. I enjoyed fishing with this group from Canada. Wish we could have done better for them.

Sep. 3, 2007 -
Wind from the East has brought in a big band of cooler water -81 degrees. The stream is about 85 degrees. We caught several wahoo on the Rockpile and lost several more. We had 3 bites on the "Clark" and landed two nice yellowfins. Which we havent seen for some time. A big area of Sargassum near the color change yielded many dolphin.

Aug. 29, 2007 -
Again wind blew 20 knots. We fished for marlins but had no luck. A cloud formation in the AM suggested a 4. I predicted 4 marlins but it was a wahoo cloud- caught 4.
Aug. 28, 2007 -
We had planned an overnight but sea too rough to drift overnight. We caught the heck out of wahoo on the weather buoy. Also a sail in the same area. We fished the deep and raised several marlin but didn't hook up. Good day.
